United Airlines Meets High Barbados Demand with Year-Round Flights

In an effort to support Barbados’ booming tourism industry, United Airlines has unveiled its plans to introduce year-round service to the island from two major cities in the United States. The airline will now offer nonstop flights throughout the year from Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey and Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC to Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport.

Previously, United only operated seasonal flights from these two cities to Barbados. However, due to the increasing popularity of the destination, the airline has decided to provide continuous service to accommodate the growing demand. The Newark-Barbados flights will be available on Saturdays, while the Dulles-Barbados flights will operate on Sundays, providing more convenient options for American travelers heading to the island.

According to Eusi Skeete, the US Director of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., United Airlines initially introduced its service to Barbados in 2021 to cater to passengers traveling on board the Royal Caribbean-Rhapsody of the Seas vessel during the winter season. However, since then, the appeal of Barbados as a travel destination has significantly grown, attracting more visitors from the New Jersey, DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas.

Tourism officials in Barbados view United Airlines’ decision to expand its flights as a testament to the substantial demand for travel to the island from major US cities. Skeete expressed gratitude for the airline’s responsiveness and emphasized the importance of fostering sustainable growth strategies for Barbados. Building long-standing partnerships with airlines, such as United, ensures the availability of consistent airlift options to meet the increasing travel demands of customers.

At the recent Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Marketplace conference held in Barbados, officials noted that the island is experiencing a resurgence in visitation from both the US and traditional strongholds like the United Kingdom and Canada.

The expanded year-round service also coincides with Barbados’ renowned Food and Rum Festival, which will take place from October 19 to 22 this year. The festival celebrates the island’s vibrant culinary culture and world-famous rum industry, offering visitors a unique experience.

With United Airlines’ commitment to providing continuous flights from Newark and Dulles to Barbados, the island’s tourism sector is poised to further thrive and attract a growing number of visitors seeking an unforgettable Caribbean getaway.
