Barbados and Ghana Strengthen Ties with Proposed Air Bridge

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley is actively pursuing the establishment of an air bridge between Barbados and Ghana, aiming to facilitate the travel of 600 to 800 individuals each month. During discussions with Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ibrahim Awal, and his delegation, Prime Minister Mottley expressed her confidence in garnering interest from Barbadians who are keen to explore Africa further.

Both countries have affirmed their commitment to transforming the proposed air bridge into a tangible reality. Minister Awal has assured that he will expedite talks with his Barbadian counterpart, Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, in order to progress the initiative.

Acknowledging the significance of their collaboration, Prime Minister Mottley conveyed her deep appreciation for the supply of pharmaceuticals through the African Medical Supplies Platform. These provisions have greatly supported CARICOM countries in accessing affordable therapeutics, equipment, and vaccines amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. She emphasized the abundant opportunities that arise from such partnerships and stressed the importance of continued dialogue.

Additionally, discussions encompassed the potential establishment of an Afreximbank headquarters in Barbados and touched upon global matters, including the forthcoming COP 28 summit in Dubai.

Barbados and Ghana have maintained diplomatic relations since 1994.
