Barbados is set to experience a significant increase in cruise calls for the 2024/2025 winter season, with an impressive total of 398 scheduled arrivals. The news was shared on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Bridgetown Port, marking the inaugural visit of the Oceania Nautica.
Marsha Alleyne, Chief Product Development Officer at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), expressed her delight at the thriving cruise industry, highlighting the substantial impact it will have on the island’s economy.
“These cruise calls will bring an astounding total of 698,580 passengers,” Alleyne stated. “This is remarkable growth for our cruise sector and a clear indication of the tourism industry’s rebound in Barbados.”
The BTMI official emphasized the economic benefits of increased cruise activity, noting the positive effects on local attractions, taxi operators, and entrepreneurs. “This ensures economic wealth throughout our cruise season and provides opportunities for many across the tourism sector,” Alleyne added.
She also reiterated BTMI’s commitment to attracting more cruise passengers in the future.
Captain Sasa Milosavljevic of the Oceania Nautica shared his excitement about visiting the island. “We hope this is one of many calls, and we look forward to returning to Barbados often,” he said.
The Oceania Nautica arrived with 624 passengers and 396 crew members on board. The ship is on a 36-day journey from Montreal to Miami, which began on October 28 and will conclude on December 3.
This surge in cruise calls underscores Barbados’ continued appeal as a premier destination for travelers seeking vibrant culture, warm hospitality, and breathtaking attractions.
