Barbados Sailing Week 2024 is poised to make waves as it gears up for its most significant edition yet. Running from January 12 to 24, this one-week extravaganza has witnessed a notable surge in both local and international participants, and with registration open for an additional two weeks, the numbers are expected to soar even higher.
During a press conference at the Barbados Cruising Club, Marianna Polacka, a member of the organizing committee, shared the exciting news of doubled entries in certain categories. For instance, the Mount Gay Round Barbados event in 2023 had eight entries, but this year boasts 11 entries, including five foreign yachts. In the Coastal Series Racing, the participant count has surged from eight entries last year to an impressive 16 this time around, with six being foreign boats.

Commodore Chris Worme of the Barbados Cruising Club anticipates more yacht confirmations before the registration deadline concludes. Additionally, the junior dinghy races have seen a notable increase, with over 20 children already registered for participation.
Kamal Springer, the manager of sports tourism at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), expressed satisfaction in hosting the first sailing event in the Caribbean for 2024. With participants from the UK, Europe, and North America, Barbados Sailing Week is establishing itself as a premier sailing event in the region. Talks are underway with sailing organizations to further expand the event’s reach and enhance its international profile.
