Following a setback against England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, West Indies are focused on securing victories against the USA and South Africa to advance in the tournament. Head coach Daren Sammy emphasized the critical nature of upcoming matches, declaring that every game is now a must-win if the West Indies are to clinch the T20 title on their home turf.

The Caribbean team started the Super 8s with a defeat, leaving them at the bottom of Group 2. However, Sammy is confident in his team’s ability to bounce back, particularly highlighting the match against the USA at Kensington Oval on Friday.

“Now, it’s imperative that we win all our matches to stay in contention,” Sammy said. “We’ll leave this loss behind in Saint Lucia and focus on our clash against the USA on Friday.”

Despite the initial setback, Sammy remains optimistic. “We still believe we have what it takes to win this World Cup,” he affirmed. “Our immediate focus is on defeating the USA, followed by South Africa in Antigua. This loss will not diminish our determination.”

Reflecting on the defeat, Sammy acknowledged the team’s shortcomings but remained forward-looking. “We didn’t execute our plans effectively and missed a few chances. However, we’ll assess and make necessary improvements before our upcoming matches in Barbados.”

One tactical decision that came under scrutiny was including all-rounder Romario Shepherd over left-arm pacer Obed McCoy. Despite Shepherd conceding 41 runs in two overs, Sammy defended the decision, citing Shepherd’s past contributions and strategic benefits.

Looking ahead, Sammy maintained confidence in West Indies’ prospects. “No one said it would be easy. We faced the defending champions today, and they outplayed us. Nevertheless, our tournament fate remains in our hands. I have a group of fifteen men who truly believe we can win this tournament.”

With determination and strategic adjustments, West Indies aim to rebound strongly in their upcoming matches and advance to the semi-finals.
