The Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) 2024 commenced at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Georgetown, Guyana, spotlighting the region’s vast investment potential and the importance of public-private partnerships for economic transformation.
Organized by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) under the theme ‘Transforming Our Future, Empowering Growth’, and in partnership with the Government of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, the European Union, the CARICOM Secretariat, and the Caribbean Development Bank, CIF 2024 aims to connect regional and international investors with the Caribbean’s promising opportunities.

Dr. Damie Sinanan, Executive Director of Caribbean Export, highlighted the forum’s critical role in attracting investments essential for the region’s economic growth and diversification.
“The Caribbean offers abundant investment opportunities across various sectors. CIF serves as a vital platform for public and private stakeholders to meet and advance these prospects,” Dr. Sinanan stated.
He emphasized the need for collective action to attract significant capital investments and achieve transformational growth in the region. “We must unite as a single Caribbean to bring the necessary skills and market size needed for high-level investments. It can’t be business as usual; we must act swiftly and cohesively in this ever-changing environment.”

President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of Guyana echoed these sentiments, inviting delegates to explore Guyana’s favorable investment climate, marked by generous fiscal incentives and a stable financial system.
“Guyana is open to investment and offers numerous opportunities across various sectors. We have created a welcoming environment for investors with low inflation and an open foreign currency market,” President Ali affirmed.
Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of the CARICOM Secretariat, underscored the urgency of climate-resilient investments, particularly in sustainable agriculture, to address the region’s vulnerabilities to climate change.

“Investing in sustainable agricultural projects that modernize farming techniques and improve market access is crucial for the Caribbean’s resilience and growth,” Dr. Barnett emphasized.
His Excellency Rene Van Nes, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Guyana, praised EU investors’ involvement in CIF 2024 and highlighted the EU’s commitment to being the Caribbean’s preferred business partner through its global gateway strategy.
“The Caribbean presents significant investment opportunities, and the EU is committed to bridging investment gaps and promoting sustainable, transformative investments,” Ambassador Van Nes stated.
Lisa Harding, Acting Head of the Private Sector Division at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), reiterated the bank’s support for CIF as a strategic platform for showcasing investment opportunities and fostering stakeholder dialogue.

“The Caribbean Investment Forum has successfully attracted investment capital into the region. CDB plays a critical role in supporting investment and sustainable development across its client countries,” Harding remarked.
Following the formal opening, delegates enjoyed vibrant cultural presentations showcasing Guyanese heritage, reinforcing unity and cultural richness.
CIF 2024 explored key topics, including sustainable agriculture, transitioning to a green economy, business digitalization, and sustainable development, all aimed at unlocking the Caribbean’s investment potential.
