Barbados is gearing up to enhance its appeal to American tourists, particularly through Georgia, as Delta Air Lines prepares to resume daily nonstop flights from Atlanta to the island on November 23 after a seven-year hiatus. The initiative aims not only to attract native Barbadians living in Georgia but also to entice prospective visitors. Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Tourism and Transportation, highlighted the strategic importance of this effort during a celebration at the Nobu Hotel in Buckhead, emphasizing plans to engage the diaspora through the 2025 “We Gathering” initiative.
The renewed flight service is expected to significantly bolster tourism, adding 70,000 seats annually with additional routes planned from New York starting December 21. This expansion aligns with Barbados’s integrated marketing strategy, leveraging digital platforms, social media influencers, and targeting Delta’s frequent flyers to promote the island’s cultural festivals, signature events, and culinary delights.

While traditionally stronger in markets like the UK and Canada, Barbados has seen a notable rise in US arrivals, reflecting an 18% increase in 2023 alone. This growth underscores Barbados’s appeal to American travelers, further supported by recent partnerships such as hosting the T20 Cricket World Cup and sponsoring PGA Tour events.
Andrea Franklin, CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., encouraged visitors to explore Barbados ahead of the flight launch, highlighting events like the Crop Over festival and the Barbados Food and Rum Festival as prime opportunities to experience the island’s rich cultural and culinary heritage. Looking ahead to 2025, Franklin emphasized a year-long celebration focusing on each of Barbados’s parishes, culminating in a grand cultural showcase.
