As September rolls in, Barbados continues to buzz with vibrant activities that cater to both locals and visitors alike. 1. Hike Barbados

These treks take you through the island’s lush cane fields, serene gullies, tropical forests, and charming coastal communities. It’s a fantastic way to get some healthy exercise while immersing yourself in the island’s unique heritage and environment. Plus, you’ll have the chance to make new friends along the way!

Hikes Schedule:

  • Sunday, 1st September – Searles Factory Yard, Christ Church
  • Sunday, 8th September – Portvale Sugar Factory, St. James
  • Sunday, 15th September – Bath Beach, St. John
  • Tuesday, 17th September – Grantley Adams School, St. Joseph (Special Moonlight Hike at 6:00 PM)
  • Sunday, 22nd September – Carrington Factory Yard, St. Philip
  • Sunday, 29th September – Archer’s Bay, St. Lucy

Hiking Details:

  • Morning hikes start at 6:00 AM.
  • Afternoon hikes (medium pace only) begin at 3:30 PM.
  • Moonlight hikes start at 5:30 PM (bring a torch).
  • All hikes last approximately 3 hours.

Hiking Groups:

  • Stop ‘n’ Stare (easy): Covers around 6 miles.
  • Medium: Covers around 8 miles.
  • Brisk Medium: Covers around 10 miles.
  • Grin ‘n’ Bear (challenging): Covers around 12 miles.

These hikes are free, but donations are always welcome to support the efforts of the Barbados Hiking Association.

2. Horse Racing Race Day Fixtures

For those who appreciate the thrill of thoroughbred horse racing, September offers an exciting race day at the historic Garrison Savannah. This venue has hosted horse races for over 150 years and remains a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

Race Day Fixture:

The day typically features nine races, starting around 12:30 PM and concluding by 6:00 PM. Whether you’re a seasoned racegoer or new to the Sport of Kings, you’ll find the experience exhilarating. Entrance fees range from BB$15.00 to BB$100.00 depending on the stand, and admission to the grounds is free.
