The WestBeach Barbados project in St Peter, recently launched by B.J. Investments Limited, is expected to generate approximately 200 jobs during its 20-month construction period, with around 30 permanent positions once completed. Chairman of the company, Bjorn Bjerkhamn, revealed these details during the groundbreaking ceremony, with construction set to begin next Monday and completion anticipated by mid-2026.

The development, featuring 24 luxury resort condominium units—a mix of 20 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom properties—is projected to inject $30 million in foreign exchange into the Barbadian economy. Bjerkhamn emphasized the significance of the project, particularly during a time when investor activity has slowed. He expressed pride in both the development and his connection to Barbados, highlighting the project’s contribution to employment and economic stability on the island.

“We are not only contributing to the economic well-being of Barbados but also helping maintain employment here in this beautiful island,” Bjerkhamn said during his address.

Funding for the WestBeach project will largely come from foreign exchange sources, with the sale of the condominium units expected to bolster the local economy further. Bjerkhamn confirmed that the development would channel $30 million in foreign currency into Barbados through both construction and sales.

Derek Edwards, Chief Operating Officer of B.J. Investments Limited, outlined some of the project’s key features, including a shared rooftop deck offering expansive views of the West Coast. He described the deck as the “crown jewel” of the building, enhancing the luxury appeal of the development.

The company reassured that the project would be built by experienced Barbadian contractors and would prioritize locally produced materials, ensuring a strong connection to the local community.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who attended the ceremony, commended the project for its contribution to both employment and the local tourism industry. She noted the project’s alignment with the ongoing resurgence in tourism and housing development across the island, emphasizing its impact on job creation.

“It is expected that over 200 people will work on this site, benefiting 200 Barbadian families and helping them enhance their skills through participation in meaningful projects like this,” Mottley remarked.

The Prime Minister also linked the project to broader national economic strategies, praising Bjerkhamn for his continued confidence in Barbados and highlighting the benefits of combining tourism-related developments with affordable housing initiatives for Barbadians.
