Barbados extends its popular Welcome Stamp Programme after receiving over 5,000 applications worldwide.
Barbados has decided to extend its Welcome Stamp Programme until December 31, 2026, in response to the overwhelming interest in its remote work visa scheme, which has now received over 5,000 applications. Originally launched in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme, now in its fourth year, aims to solidify Barbados as a premier destination for remote workers and digital nomads seeking a Caribbean lifestyle.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who introduced the initiative in July 2020, emphasized its role in diversifying the tourism product, attracting a new demographic of visitors, and boosting foreign exchange earnings.

The majority of applications have come from the United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada, India, and Ireland. Individuals account for 65% of applicants, while families make up the remaining 35%. A notable gender disparity exists, with 64% of applications from men and 36% from women, spanning an age range from 18 to over 75 years old.
Professionals from diverse sectors such as Tourism and Hospitality, Distribution, Education and Training, Finance, Government and Public Administration, Public Safety, Logistics, and Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications have been drawn to the programme, according to the BTMI.
The extension of the Welcome Stamp Programme until 2026 was authorized by Parliament’s passage of the Remote Employment Amendment Act in July 2021. This amendment allows for the renewal of the stamp and associated fees for those who have resided in Barbados for a year or more. The decision to extend the programme underscores Barbados’ commitment to accommodating the evolving needs of remote workers worldwide amidst the ongoing global recovery from the pandemic.
