The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), renowned for its extensive tourism research spanning macro and micro trends that influence the region’s economy, has announced the appointment of Aliyyah Shakeer as its new Director of Research.

Based in Barbados, Shakeer, a seasoned industry professional, will spearhead the CTO’s research initiatives. Her role will focus on crafting data-driven strategies aimed at enhancing the Caribbean’s tourism competitiveness.
“We are thrilled to welcome Aliyyah Shakeer to our team as Director of Research,” stated Dona Regis-Prosper, CEO and Secretary General of the CTO, in a statement to Caribbean Journal. “Her extensive background in tourism research and strategy development will be instrumental as we strive towards a more competitive and sustainable Caribbean tourism industry.”

Shakeer brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Manager of Planning and Research at Trinidad’s Tourism Development Company and as a tourism research analyst in Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Tourism. Her most recent role was as the international technical relations coordinator at Trinidad’s Ministry of Digital Transformation.
