Barbados News – Barbadians Must Obtain UK Electronic Travel Authorisation Starting January 8

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is reminding Barbadian citizens that the United Kingdom’s (UK) Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme will be implemented globally on Wednesday, January 8.

As part of the new requirement, Barbadian nationals must apply for an ETA either online or via the UK ETA App. This digital authorisation will be electronically linked to the passport used during the application process and will remain valid for multiple trips to the UK over a two-year period. However, if a traveller acquires a new passport, they will need to apply for a new ETA.

The application process includes a fee of £10, and applicants can expect to receive an email confirmation within three working days or sooner.

It is important to note that while an ETA allows individuals to travel to the UK, it does not guarantee entry. Travellers must still undergo passport control upon arrival at the UK border.

This requirement applies to all individuals traveling to or transiting through the UK, including infants and children. Applications can be submitted on behalf of others; however, once an application is submitted, refunds will not be issued.

For further details or to apply for an ETA, individuals can visit the official UK government website.

The UK ETA does not apply to citizens of countries that already require a visa to enter the UK. Additionally, it cannot be used for purposes such as work, study, or residence in the UK.
