Faster Regional Travel

The new route will operate between V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua and Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.

The new nonstop service will significantly reduce travel time between the two islands, providing travelers with one of the most convenient air connections in the Eastern Caribbean while eliminating the need for connecting flights through other regional hubs.

The direct flights are expected to benefit:

  • Leisure travelers
  • Business professionals
  • Families visiting relatives
  • Students
  • Regional event attendees

The improved air access also makes weekend getaways and short business trips between the islands more practical.

Supporting Tourism and Regional Business

The Antigua–Barbados route is expected to generate benefits beyond passenger convenience.

Tourism officials and industry stakeholders anticipate that improved connectivity will help stimulate:

  • Multi-destination Caribbean vacations
  • Regional tourism growth
  • Business travel
  • Trade opportunities
  • Cultural exchanges
  • Meetings, conferences, and sporting events

Both Barbados and Antigua are among the Caribbean’s leading tourism destinations, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Easier air access allows travelers to combine multiple islands into a single Caribbean itinerary while encouraging greater movement between regional markets.

Expanding Sunrise Airways’ Caribbean Network

The new Barbados service forms part of Sunrise Airways’ broader strategy to strengthen inter-island travel throughout the Caribbean.

In recent years, the airline has expanded its network to include destinations such as:

  • Antigua
  • Barbados
  • Saint Lucia
  • Dominica
  • St. Kitts
  • Sint Maarten
  • Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

By increasing direct routes between Caribbean islands, Sunrise Airways aims to improve regional mobility while reducing dependence on indirect connections through larger international hubs.

Barbados Continues to Expand Air Connectivity

The addition of Sunrise Airways further strengthens Barbados’ growing airlift network.

The island has continued to invest heavily in improving international and regional accessibility as tourism demand reaches record levels. Barbados recently recorded its highest-ever annual stayover visitor arrivals and continues expanding connections from North America, Europe, Latin America, and across the Caribbean.

The new Antigua route complements Barbados’ wider strategy of positioning itself as a regional aviation hub while making travel between CARICOM member states more accessible.
