The Barbados Food and Rum Festival 2024 is set to dazzle attendees with its 13th annual celebration of culinary excellence from October 24 to 27. This eagerly anticipated event promises an expanded lineup that honors the island’s rich gastronomic heritage and its distinction as the birthplace of rum.

This year, the festival has received international acclaim, earning a nomination for the Caribbean’s Best Culinary Festival at the prestigious 2024 World Culinary Awards. In addition, Bridgetown is vying for recognition as the Caribbean’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination, further cementing Barbados’ global culinary reputation.

April Thomas, Director of Public Relations and Communications at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), describes the festival as one of the island’s premier events. It will feature a showcase of local culinary talents alongside renowned international stars, promising a vibrant atmosphere for food enthusiasts.

Leading up to the main event, a month-long lineup of activities includes favorites like the Oistins Under the Stars cooking demonstration and the Rum Route rum-hop. The grand finale, the Liquid Gold Feast at the Concorde Experience, will treat guests to an evening of exquisite cocktails and gourmet cuisine.

This year also introduces an exciting collaboration with the Fork Festival, scheduled for October 5 at the Malt Cave Visitors Center. The Bajan Fair will add a family-friendly dimension with rides, activities, and food vendors, aiming to attract a diverse audience.

The festival will feature acclaimed international chefs such as Michelin-starred Michael O’Hare and South African celebrity chef Wandile Mabaso, alongside 29 local chefs and mixologists including head chef Henderson Butcher and head mixologist Jamaal Bowen.

Andrea Franklin, CEO of the BTMI, emphasizes the festival’s significance this year, noting Barbados’ growing prominence on the global culinary stage.

The festival’s ongoing theme, Feed the Future, underscores its dedication to nurturing emerging talent. It includes the Junior Chef Cup competition, offering young cooks the opportunity to win a $3,000 grand prize along with scholarships and internship opportunities.
