Barbados News – Barbados to Host First Event of 2025 Caribbean Sailing Season

Barbados Sailing Week will be the inaugural event on the Caribbean sailing calendar from 2025 to 2029, as revealed by the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) on Friday with the release of its updated five-year schedule. This carefully crafted calendar aims to offer sailing enthusiasts an exciting array of events throughout the Caribbean region.

Barbados Sailing Week, a cornerstone of this calendar, features ten days of thrilling marine activities, including sailing, kite surfing, and wing foiling. The 2025 edition is scheduled to take place from January 10-22, with highlights including the youth dinghy regatta on January 11-12, coastal races on January 18-19, the renowned Mount Gay Round Barbados Race on January 21, and wingfoiling and kitesurfing on January 18-19. The prize-giving ceremonies will occur between January 17-22.

In addition, the 2024 schedule includes two days of dragon flite remote-controlled sailboat racing at Golden Pond in St. Philip, offering a unique and engaging start to the island’s circuit.

Barbados Sailing Week will also serve as the starting point for two feeder races – Rum to Spice, leading to Grenada Sailing Week, and another to Sint Maarten for the Caribbean Multihull Challenge. Participants in the Rum to Spice race will embark from the Cruising Club in Carlisle Bay and make their way to Carriacou.

Following Barbados Sailing Week, several international events promise intense and exhilarating racing experiences. The CSA, along with its members, has strategically coordinated the calendar to minimize event overlaps, enabling boat owners and crews to participate in as many races as possible. This careful planning not only benefits the sailors but also ensures each Caribbean island hosting events can maximize its economic benefits.

New for 2025 is the Windies Multihull Trophy, set to be awarded at the 2026 Caribbean Multihull Challenge. This prestigious award will honor two multihulls (over 60 feet and under 60 feet) that have participated in the most 2025 Caribbean Circuit events and demonstrated exceptional performance.

The CSA Travellers Trophy, celebrating the best performance and most-traveled monohull, will be awarded at Antigua Sailing Week in 2025.

The 2025 schedule also includes notable changes, such as the rescheduling of the St Barths Bucket and The Antigua Superyacht Challenge to a week earlier due to conflicts with other international regattas.

One-design racing opportunities will be available at various regattas, including IC24’s in St. Thomas, Diam 24’s at the Caribbean Multihull Challenge and Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta, VX-One’s at Saint Thomas & the BVI Spring Regatta, and Petticrow Dragons and RS Elites at Antigua Sailing Week.

The CSA emphasized the importance of these regattas in supporting local economies, yacht clubs, and sailing programs, with a strong focus on youth participation. Initiatives like the Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta Next Generation program and the Youth to Keel Programme at Antigua Sailing Week are designed to encourage young sailors and provide valuable learning opportunities.
