A Brand new vision for Bridgetown Barbados!

Speaking recently, Prime Minister Mia Mottley shared exciting plans in motion to redevelop & transform the islands Capital, which include welcoming a new hotel opposite the Kensington Oval, redeveloping the nearby central purchasing building, and using the BIDC building for “hotel and tourism” purposes.

She also revealed that her government was in discussions with Guyanese officials about the establishment of a gold exchange.

“This city of Bridgetown is special. It is special to all of us and I hope and pray that the continued work of this Government will not only be looking at the buildings, but will also be looking at the reorganisation of the traffic flow of this town, that we will have, within a few years, a city that will essentially have its values kept intact but will have a very different look and a very different feel”.

As well as this, Hyatt has partnered with a Barbadian company to build the Hyatt Ziva Barbados in the island’s Carlisle Bay. The all-inclusive resort will have of 380 guest rooms, 40 condominiums and six premier rooms; it will be Barbados’ first new-build hotel in over a decade.

The former Treasury Building, standing in the heart of the capital city will also be adapted for residential use.

There are other iconic buildings also in the heart of the City that may serve as educational campuses. It is all part of the plan to make the City alive and thriving once more with a mix of vibrant economic activity and residential activity.

Government is moving ahead with plans to “press back into productive use” derelict and unused buildings in Bridgetown and the wider Urban Corridor, through joint partnerships with landowners.  

“We have already commenced the construction of duplex and quadruplex housing units in and around Bridgetown as part of a goal of maximising the use of scarce available land spaces,”
