The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) has announced plans for the region’s inaugural luxury travel trade show, set to take place in late September.
CHTA President Josef Forstmayr described the event as a showcase of the Caribbean’s ability to compete with the world’s leading destinations for high-end travelers.
“The Caribbean is the most aspirational region in the world, and we aim to brand it as such while highlighting the exceptional quality of our luxury offerings,” said Forstmayr. “Our products far surpass those in the Middle East, the Seychelles, Mauritius, and even the Far East.”

Forstmayr pointed to renowned luxury properties such as Sandy Lane in Barbados and Jade Mountain in St. Lucia as examples of the region’s leading-edge hospitality, noting that many other luxury developments are in the works.
The yet-to-be-named trade show, referred to by Forstmayr as a luxury “retreat,” aims to strengthen connections between hotels and other high-end businesses. The event will serve as a platform to foster collaboration and innovation in the luxury travel sector.
Additionally, the CHTA is working to establish a fund dedicated to rebranding the Caribbean as a unified luxury destination and promoting it globally.

Forstmayr emphasized the importance of improving inter-island travel to the region’s success. He called for the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles that make moving between islands costly and time-consuming.
“There needs to be a more seamless and affordable way for travelers to explore multiple islands,” he said, adding that Air Jamaica’s ambitions to build a robust Caribbean flight network could play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.
With its first luxury travel trade show on the horizon, the Caribbean is positioning itself as a premier destination for discerning travelers worldwide.
