Thanksgiving traditionally marks the unofficial start of the Caribbean’s winter tourism season — a time when flights fill up, cruise ship calls increase, and travellers from colder climates head south in search of sunshine. From late November through the New Year, demand climbs steadily, and Barbados has spent months preparing to ensure visitors enjoy a seamless and memorable experience.
As the 2025–2026 winter season kicks off, tourism leaders have confirmed that the island’s airports, seaport and hospitality services are fully equipped for the busiest period of the year.

All assured stakeholders that the necessary infrastructure, equipment and staffing are in place to handle increased traffic smoothly and efficiently.
Major Airport Enhancements Underway
GAIA is rolling out several improvements designed to enhance the passenger experience as arrivals surge. These include:
- Upgraded Wi-Fi and increased charging stations
- Adjusted terminal layouts for better flow
- Additional changing rooms
- Strengthened traffic management
- Nine new buses for transporting passengers from aircraft to the terminal
- A 60,000 sq. ft. terminal expansion to boost capacity
Caribbean Aircraft Handlers will also be increasing staff, preparing contingency plans for equipment challenges, and continuing to use the Concorde hangar from Thursday to Saturday for air-to-sea passenger processing. Extra police support will ensure a safer, smoother operation during peak periods.

Strategic Growth Plans for 2026 and Beyond
Looking ahead, BTMI will intensify its presence in major markets—USA, UK, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean—using more data-driven marketing and stronger airline and trade partnerships. The aim is to maintain year-round demand, reinforce airlift, and stabilise occupancy even beyond the peak season.
Franklin emphasised that tourism success depends on collective effort, reminding stakeholders that the visitor experience is shaped by everyone on the island. Although Barbados is known for its welcoming spirit, she believes there is room for continued improvement.
She encouraged tourism partners to collaborate more closely with BTMI, build deeper market relationships, and present a unified Barbados on global stages.
A Call for Bold Collaboration
In closing, Franklin urged the industry to embrace innovation and work together confidently despite global uncertainties. With collaboration and purpose-driven action, she believes Barbados can continue building a resilient, competitive, and highly respected tourism industry for the future.
