Barbados is set to welcome increased airlift this winter as Air Canada expands its services to the island, deploying its state-of-the-art Dreamliner aircraft and increasing flight frequencies from Toronto and Montreal, reflecting growing confidence in the island as a top Caribbean destination.

Speaking at the launch of the Spirit of Barbados Mega Fam familiarisation tour at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill highlighted that the move signals a strong start to what is expected to be a record-breaking winter season.

Air Canada will operate the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from next Wednesday through Sunday, well ahead of the traditional winter season. Known for its fuel efficiency, extended range, and advanced cabin comfort, the Dreamliner will provide enhanced travel experiences for passengers while boosting airlift capacity.

“The deployment of the Dreamliner through April 30, 2026, represents a significant expansion in airlift and underscores the strong partnership between Barbados and Air Canada,” the minister stated.

Additionally, Air Canada will commence service from Montreal on November 2, six weeks earlier than originally planned, and will increase Toronto flights to nine weekly, including double frequencies on Fridays and Sundays during peak travel periods. These enhancements are expected to increase seat capacity by 16 per cent for the upcoming winter season.

“These initiatives reflect Air Canada’s confidence in Barbados’ strong year-on-year performance and the robust demand projected for the island this season,” Gooding-Edghill said.

The minister also noted ongoing efforts to expand connectivity across Canada, with new gateways in Atlantic Canada and Ontario under consideration, as well as potential services from Ottawa, Halifax, and Western Canada. These developments aim to make Barbados more accessible to Canadian travelers year-round.

Strengthening airlift partnerships and expanding routes form part of a broader strategy to position Barbados as the southern Caribbean’s premier destination, ensuring seamless travel experiences from departure to arrival while supporting the island’s tourism growth.
