Barbados News – British Airways Adds Daily Gatwick Flights as Barbados Air Capacity Rises 70%

Barbados is set to receive a significant boost in air connectivity from the United Kingdom, with British Airways increasing seat capacity by 70% for the 2026/27 winter season and planning to more than double summer capacity in 2027.

The expansion includes a new daily direct service between London Gatwick Airport and Grantley Adams International Airport, beginning October 25, 2026. The route will complement the airline’s existing London Heathrow service, giving travellers more options for reaching the Caribbean island.

Three Daily Flights During Peak Winter

The expanded schedule is expected to provide more than 120,000 additional seats to Barbados annually. During the peak winter period, British Airways plans to operate three daily flights from London: one from Gatwick and two from Heathrow.

The existing Heathrow service will continue daily through November before increasing to twice daily from December 2026 through March 2027. Meanwhile, the new Gatwick service will operate daily from October 25.

The additional flights are expected to improve travel flexibility for UK visitors, particularly during the busy winter holiday season.

Summer 2027 Capacity to More Than Double

The Gatwick route will continue into summer 2027, marking British Airways’ first-ever double-daily summer service to Barbados.

The Gatwick flight will operate as a shared service with Guyana, Tobago or Grenada on six days of the week, while Wednesdays will feature a dedicated Barbados service.

The expanded schedule is also expected to improve onward connections for travellers arriving from other parts of the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Strengthening Barbados’ Tourism Connections

Andrea Franklin, Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), welcomed the expansion, highlighting the importance of maintaining convenient access for UK visitors and strengthening connections with international markets.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, also highlighted the significance of the expanded service in strengthening the relationship between the airline and Barbados.

British Airways has served Barbados for more than 72 years, and the latest expansion reinforces the importance of the UK market to the island’s tourism industry.

Supporting Year-Round Tourism

The additional airlift is expected to support Barbados’ tourism sector beyond the traditional winter high season. Increased summer capacity will provide more opportunities for visitors to attend events such as the Crop Over Festival, Dive Fest and Rally Barbados.

With more flights, greater seat availability and improved connections through London, the expansion could help attract additional visitors while providing residents and returning travellers with more choice.

The new schedule represents a major development in Barbados’ air connectivity, supporting the island’s ambition to remain accessible to international visitors throughout the year.
