Barbados has officially stepped into the future of mobile technology, as Liberty Caribbean launches the island’s first 5G mobile network under the Flow and Liberty Business brands.

This milestone makes Barbados the second Caribbean nation, after the Cayman Islands, to experience the transformative potential of 5G connectivity — a development that promises to reshape how Barbadians live, work, and connect with the world.

Speaking at the official launch event at Flow’s Customer Experience Centre, Windsor Lodge, St. Michael, Desron Bynoe, Vice-President and General Manager of Flow Barbados, hailed the introduction of 5G+ as a defining moment in the island’s digital evolution.

“5G+ is more than a generational upgrade — it’s infrastructure for possibility,” Bynoe stated. “Faster speeds and lower latency will bring tangible improvements to daily life, from learning and healthcare to business innovation and tourism.”

The initial 5G+ rollout connects 22 high-impact sites across the island, strategically chosen to deliver immediate benefits. Flow plans to achieve 50% population coverage by the end of 2025, with full island-wide coverage targeted for completion by 2026.

Bynoe emphasized that the technology’s value goes beyond speed — it serves as an engine for economic transformation, strengthening Barbados’ global competitiveness and signaling to investors that the island is serious about digital innovation.

He noted that the impact of 5G+ will extend into key sectors:

  • Tourism, with immersive digital experiences blending the physical and virtual.
  • Public services, with faster, more efficient interactions between citizens and government.
  • Industry, through smarter, data-driven operations creating new value chains.

Flow and Liberty Business are also ensuring that Barbadians can make the most of the technology through practical customer support, including device guidance, plan options, and in-store demonstrations.

Marilyn Sealy, Liberty Caribbean’s Senior Director and Head of Communications, echoed the sentiment, calling 5G+ an “infrastructure of possibility” designed to unlock new opportunities across the Caribbean.

“5G+ is about more than speed — it enables richer learning, more resilient healthcare, smarter infrastructure, and broader economic inclusion,” Sealy said. “Our rollout is deliberate and responsible, focusing on high-impact areas first, with a clear path toward universal access.”

Sealy reaffirmed Liberty Caribbean’s commitment to expanding 5G+ across neighboring islands and invited regional governments and private sector leaders to collaborate in turning this new digital capability into measurable impact.

“The opportunity before us is vast,” she concluded. “Barbados has always led with ambition, and this step cements its position as a Caribbean leader in digital transformation.”

With this launch, Barbados positions itself at the forefront of the region’s digital economy, harnessing 5G technology to power innovation, inclusion, and sustainable growth across every sector.
