With umbrellas in hand and smiles on their faces, music lovers gathered at Codrington College for an unforgettable evening of rhythm, unity, and celebration at the First Citizens Uplift: A Caribbean Musical Fusion. Despite light showers, the event was a radiant success, bringing together a stellar cast of musicians in a heartwarming showcase of Caribbean talent and musical diversity.

The evening opened on a high note with polished performances by the Barbados Police Service Band and the National Youth Steel Orchestra, setting an energetic and patriotic tone. Audiences were then treated to the brilliance of the Nicholas Brancker Band, led by the renowned musical director himself. Brancker’s creative arrangements of beloved tunes added a fresh twist that delighted listeners.

The concert was a heartfelt tribute to musical legends both near and far. Nikita Herbert and Adrian Clarke ignited the crowd with a vibrant spouge medley, while Roberta Flack’s classics were beautifully reimagined with Brancker on keys. Soulful renditions of The Closer I Get to You, Killing Me Softly, and Where is the Love showcased the vocal range and emotion of performers like Nikita, Casheda Dottin, Mahalia Cummins, Israel Allen, and Ch’An.

In the spirit of Easter, the event also featured moving gospel numbers. Paula Hinds’ stirring version of Blessed Assurance and Allen’s powerful delivery of And Can It Be filled the open air with reverence and inspiration. The band’s interpretations of Psalm 23 and How Great Thou Art added a serene depth to the night.

A heartfelt tribute by Adrian Clarke to calypso great Black Stalin closed the first half, leaving the crowd feeling uplifted and deeply satisfied.
