Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, has urged for enhanced collaboration among key tourism stakeholders across the Caribbean, emphasizing their pivotal role in driving the region’s economic progress.

Speaking at the ASTA Caribbean Showcase in Curaçao, Gooding-Edghill highlighted the importance of governments and tourism agencies strengthening alliances to boost the Caribbean’s attractiveness to international visitors.

“There is a significant surge in demand for the Caribbean, making it crucial to continue raising awareness,” Gooding-Edghill said, stressing the need for ongoing collaboration with organizations like Sandals Resorts and the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA).

The event, hosted by Sandals Resorts, gathered over 235 North American travel advisors, offering them an immersive experience of Caribbean hospitality. As the newly elected chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), Gooding-Edghill praised this initiative as vital for maintaining the region’s tourism industry.

“Having travel advisors visit a destination is a major achievement because they are the partners who will promote Barbados and other Caribbean destinations,” he said. “Just imagine the impact of over 235 advisors now selling the destination to prospective travelers – it’s significant.”

Gooding-Edghill’s call for support comes amid growing competition and shifting travel trends in the global market. He emphasized that such partnerships are essential for familiarizing industry professionals with the region’s diverse offerings.

Additionally, he pointed out the broader economic benefits of these partnerships, reminding travel advisors that their contributions extend beyond just booking trips.

“When you consider the economic impact, think about what it does for the social security systems and infrastructure development, all of which ensure a positive experience for your customers,” he told the advisors.

Gary Sadler, executive vice president of sales and industry relations at Unique Vacations Inc, an affiliate of Sandals Resorts, echoed this sentiment. He reaffirmed Sandals Resorts’ dedication to working with travel advisors and other stakeholders to ensure continued growth and success in Caribbean tourism.
