Caribbean News – Cutting-Edge IDB TechLab Set to Shape Caribbean’s Digital Future

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has unveiled a groundbreaking TechLab in Trinidad and Tobago, aimed at accelerating digital transformation and fostering innovation across the Caribbean. This state-of-the-art technology hub will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and regional collaboration in emerging digital fields.

Inaugurated by IDB executive vice president Jordan Schwartz, the event saw participation from notable leaders, including Penelope Beckles, Trinidad and Tobago’s minister of planning and development; Hassel Bacchus, minister of digital transformation; Anton Edmunds, IDB general manager for the Caribbean; and Jean-Michel Baudoin, IDB chief information officer.

Positioning Trinidad and Tobago as a digital innovation leader, the TechLab will explore transformative technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, social robotics, and drones. These cutting-edge tools are expected to drive advancements in areas like smart city development and digital inclusion, addressing some of the Caribbean’s most pressing challenges.

“Technology is reshaping economies and societies, and the Caribbean has a tremendous opportunity to harness digital innovation for development,” said Schwartz. “This TechLab is a collaborative space for governments, academia, and the private sector to experiment, co-create, and implement groundbreaking solutions tailored to the region’s unique needs.”
