If you’re relocating from overseas with a dog or cat, Barbados has clear import requirements designed to protect animal and public health. The process requires planning, so it’s best to start preparations several weeks or even months in advance.
Key Pet Import Requirements for Barbados
Dogs and cats entering Barbados typically require:
- ISO-compliant microchip (must be implanted before rabies vaccination)
- Valid rabies vaccination
- Import permit from Barbados Veterinary Services
- Official veterinary health certificate
- Required parasite treatments and health checks
- Advance arrival notice before travel
For many countries, pets must wait at least 35 days after rabies vaccination before entering Barbados. Depending on your country of origin, additional testing such as a rabies antibody (FAVN) titer test may also be required. Import permits are generally valid for six months. In most compliant cases, quarantine is not required, which is a major advantage for relocating pet owners.
