Barbados and Ireland Strengthen Tourism Ties: Building Bridges for Travel

Barbados and Ireland are strengthening their ties in the tourism sector, as a delegation from the Barbados Tourism Marketing (BTMI) recently engaged with their airline partner, Aer Lingus. Cheryl Carter of BTMI warmly welcomed the delegation, which included notable figures such as The Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill, the new Minister of Tourism and International Transport of Barbados, along with Francine Blackman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Tourism and International Transport, and BTMI Chairman Shelly Williams. Bill Byrne and Jenny Rafter represented Aer Lingus at the special reception.

During the event, Minister Gooding-Edghill expressed his gratitude for Aer Lingus’ support and their commitment to Barbados. He acknowledged that this was his inaugural visit to Ireland and seized the opportunity to discuss the potential for further collaboration. Specifically, he emphasized the importance of establishing a direct flight route between the two nations, stating that an increase in passenger traffic would catalyze this development. Additionally, Minister Gooding-Edghill emphasized Barbados’ dedication to enhancing its infrastructure and hotels to solidify its status as a year-round destination.
