FiX24 Draws Over 500 Fintech Enthusiasts to Barbados for Three-Day Conference

More than 500 fintech experts and enthusiasts convened in Barbados for the second edition of the Fintech Islands Experience 2024 (FiX24) conference, held at Sam’s Lord Castle, A Wyndham Grand Resort, from January 24. The event, marked by substantial growth, attracted participants from the Caribbean, Americas, Europe, and Africa.

FiX24 garnered support from top-tier partners, with Mastercard as the platinum sponsor and gold sponsors including Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited, and Invest Barbados. Co-founder and CEO of Fintech Islands, Allison Hunte, emphasized the significance of the conference for the Caribbean, pointing out the notable presence of regulators, founders, CEOs, traditional banks, and digital banks. Hunte highlighted the conference’s aim to promote financial inclusivity, providing simple solutions for the unbanked population.

Co-founder and CTO of Fintech Islands, Curt Persaud, expressed a desire to build on the momentum of the previous conference, which resulted in partnerships, agreements, and startup formations. Ten early-stage Caribbean fintech startups participated in a pitching competition for a chance to win a cash award of US$10,000, presenting innovative solutions to everyday financial challenges.

Key speakers on the opening day included Diego Szteinhendler from Mastercard, Alfonso Garcia Mora from The World Bank Group, and Matteo Rizzi, the Founder of Timepledge Ltd. The three-day event featured a total of 125 renowned speakers, discussing topics such as the role of fintech in inclusive and sustainable development, trends and opportunities in 2024 and beyond, the rise of fintech-powered super apps, and fostering inclusive prosperity in the Caribbean through growing fintech unicorns.
