Oistins Bay Garden: A Fusion of Culture and Cuisine Celebrates 28 Years

Oistins Bay Garden, a prominent tourist hotspot on the island, reveals a rich tapestry of experiences beyond its vibrant food stalls. Nestled amidst the hustle, the hidden gems of arts and crafts contribute to the unique charm of this cultural and culinary hub. Kemar Harris, President of the Oistins Bay Garden Committee, encapsulated its essence, emphasizing, “We recognize that this is not just a fishing village; it is a cultural hub and a culinary arena here at Oistins Bay Garden.”

Conceived by former Prime Minister Sir Harold St John, this locale has firmly etched itself into Barbados’ cultural landscape. Celebrating its 28th anniversary this year, a series of activities from January 24 to 28 marked the occasion.

The festivities commenced with Tipsy Wednesdee and continued with the ever-popular Q in the Community on Thursday. A grand birthday party on Friday drew an even larger crowd, with both locals and visitors immersed in the vibrant atmosphere. The night featured a stellar lineup of DJs, including Indian & Chris Gayle and Roc Fresh. The traditional tuk band and Mother Sally added a cultural touch to the festivities.

Kemar Harris assured that the event’s program was meticulously curated, stating, “We recognize the young people, and this platform is also to showcase their talent. For the tourists and the culture, we wanted to include the steel band element.” The addition of the Christ Church Foundation School Steel Orchestra to the lineup was a special treat, captivating the audience with their high energy performance.
