New Caribbean Air Corridor Linking Barbados, Tortola, and St. Maarten
The newly launched routes connect three important Caribbean aviation gateways:
- Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados
- Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport in Tortola
- Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten
Under the new schedule, seven weekly flights now operate between Tortola and Barbados.
- Four flights run nonstop between Tortola and Barbados.
- Three additional weekly flights operate via St. Maarten, which also introduces a direct connection between Tortola and St. Maarten.
This flight structure effectively creates a triangular route network, allowing travelers to move easily between the Northern and Southern Caribbean.
Improving North–South Caribbean Travel
One of the biggest challenges for Caribbean travelers has traditionally been limited inter-island connectivity, especially between the northern and southern parts of the region. Many routes previously required long detours through major hubs such as Miami or Panama.
The new interCaribbean Airways flights significantly reduce travel time by offering more direct options. Passengers traveling from Barbados can now connect more easily to destinations in the Northern Caribbean, while travelers from the British Virgin Islands gain easier access to Southern Caribbean markets.
From Barbados, passengers can connect to destinations including:
- St. Lucia
- Grenada
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Guyana
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
At the same time, travelers departing from Tortola or St. Maarten gain improved access to Southern Caribbean destinations through Barbados.

The airline has also expanded its fleet in recent years, operating modern ATR turboprop aircraft, which are well suited for short regional flights between Caribbean islands.
This fleet growth allows the airline to increase frequencies and introduce new routes throughout the region.
Barbados Strengthens Its Role as a Regional Aviation Hub
The introduction of these flights also highlights the growing importance of Barbados as a Caribbean aviation hub.
With improved airlift and increasing airline partnerships, Grantley Adams International Airport is becoming a central gateway connecting travelers across the Caribbean.
Barbados has been actively working to expand its regional connectivity as part of a broader tourism strategy aimed at supporting:
- Multi-destination Caribbean travel
- Regional tourism partnerships
- Increased visitor arrivals from neighboring islands
Improved connectivity benefits not only tourism but also business travel, trade, and cultural exchange across Caribbean nations.
