Barbados recorded another year of strong tourism performance in 2025, welcoming more than 727,000 long-stay visitors and over 817,000 cruise passengers as expanded international airlift and growing global demand continued to strengthen the island’s tourism sector.
According to the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, the positive momentum has carried into 2026, with Barbados already welcoming more than 214,000 stay-over visitors and nearly 474,000 cruise arrivals during the first quarter of the year.
Speaking during a quarterly industry briefing, BHTA Chairman Javon Griffith said the island continues to see encouraging demand from its major tourism source markets, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Europe.

Strong Demand Across Key Tourism Markets
The UK market remains one of Barbados’ strongest-performing regions, supported by long-standing visitor loyalty, expanded airline capacity, and continued demand for premium Caribbean travel experiences.
Meanwhile, the United States continues to drive growth in the luxury villa, experiential travel, and upscale accommodation sectors, while Canada remains a stable and increasingly important market supported by improved air connectivity and strong winter travel demand.
Although hotel occupancy levels between January and March were slightly below 2025 figures, Barbados’ tourism sector continued to perform strongly in terms of revenue and pricing.
According to Griffith:
- Average Daily Rate (ADR) increased by 16.4%
- Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) increased by 12.5%
These results reflect Barbados’ continued ability to maintain strong pricing power and positioning within the luxury Caribbean tourism market.
Major Airlift Expansion Set for Winter 2026/27
Barbados is also preparing for one of its strongest periods of international connectivity in recent years as airlines expand service into the destination.
Beginning in July 2026, British Airways will introduce its Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on the London-Barbados route, adding approximately 97 additional seats per day while offering upgraded premium cabin experiences.
The island will see even greater expansion during the Winter 2026/27 season when British Airways resumes triple daily London service from October 25, including the return of the London Gatwick-Barbados route, which will continue onward to Grenada, Tobago, and Guyana.
Canada is also set to play a larger role in Barbados’ tourism strategy.
Air Canada will launch new Halifax-Barbados service, making Halifax the airline’s third Canadian gateway into Barbados, while Air Transat is scheduled to begin new Montreal-Barbados service during the upcoming winter season.
Additional airline growth includes:
- JetBlue resuming double daily JFK-Barbados summer service
- Copa Airlines increasing Panama-Barbados flights to daily summer operations
These additions are expected to improve seat capacity, regional accessibility, and connectivity from Latin America and North America.

Additionally, Marriott’s Barbados portfolio is expected to fully reopen by the end of summer, adding more than 605 newly renovated hotel rooms and suites to the island’s tourism inventory.
Sustainability and Workforce Development Become Industry Priorities
The BHTA also highlighted the growing importance of sustainability across Barbados’ tourism industry.
Hotels, restaurants, and tourism operators are increasingly investing in:
- Solar energy systems
- Water conservation technologies
- Waste reduction initiatives
- Local sourcing programmes
- Elimination of single-use plastics
Griffith noted that sustainability is no longer optional within the tourism industry, but an essential expectation among travelers, international partners, and global tourism brands.
Workforce development also remains a major focus, with initiatives such as the Barbados Hospitality Gateway Training Initiative continuing to support training, internships, and long-term hospitality career development across the sector.
