Barbados is preparing for another busy festive season, with United Airlines adding daily nonstop service from Newark Liberty International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport during the Christmas and New Year travel period.
The expanded schedule gives travellers from across the United States greater flexibility when planning a Barbados escape, while strengthening air connectivity to the island during one of its busiest periods of the year.
Daily Nonstop Service from Newark and Washington
United’s additional flights will operate from December 17, 2026 through January 4, 2027, connecting both U.S. gateways directly with Grantley Adams International Airport.

Greater Flexibility for Holiday Travellers
The increased frequency could make planning a Barbados holiday considerably easier.
Instead of arranging a trip around a limited weekly flight, visitors can choose arrival and departure dates that better suit their plans. Travellers could spend a long weekend on the island, arrive before Christmas and stay through New Year’s, or extend a longer villa or family holiday.
Both Newark and Washington Dulles are major United hubs, also providing travellers from other parts of the United States with additional one-stop connection possibilities to Barbados.
Barbados Remains a Festive Season Favourite
The timing of the additional flights is particularly significant because Christmas and New Year are among the most sought-after periods for travel to Barbados.
The island traditionally welcomes returning visitors, families travelling together and international holidaymakers looking for a Caribbean festive experience. The west coast, particularly the area stretching from Paynes Bay through Holetown and toward Speightstown, is a major centre of luxury tourism during this period.
Hotels and villas can fill quickly, while popular restaurants often require reservations well ahead of arrival.
The island’s luxury hospitality offering also continues to evolve, with a mix of established resorts, boutique hotels, villas and newer properties giving visitors a wide range of accommodation choices.

Stronger Air Connectivity Supports Barbados Tourism
United first began flying to Barbados in 2021 and subsequently expanded its Newark and Washington Dulles services into year-round operations.
The latest increase represents a significant seasonal boost and comes at a time when U.S. demand for Barbados continues to grow and airlines are adding capacity to Caribbean destinations during the winter travel season.
For Barbados, additional seats during the festive period can support the wider tourism economy, benefiting accommodation providers, restaurants, transportation operators, attractions and other businesses that depend on visitor spending.
A Convenient Option for the 2026–27 Holiday Season
For travellers considering Barbados for Christmas or New Year, United’s expanded schedule provides an additional reason to plan ahead.
With daily nonstop flights from both Newark and Washington Dulles between December 17 and January 4, visitors will have more flexibility to choose when they arrive and how long they stay.
For an island where the festive season is already synonymous with busy hotels, sought-after villas, exceptional dining and a strong returning visitor market, the additional airlift is another positive development heading into the 2026 holiday season.
