Barbados News – interCaribbean and WINAIR Expand 2026 Routes Linking Barbados and Tortola

Barbados is set to benefit from expanded regional air connectivity in 2026, as both interCaribbean Airways and WINAIR introduce new flight services linking the island with Tortola in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

InterCaribbean Airways has announced the launch of a new nonstop service between Tortola and Barbados, commencing on March 8, 2026. The airline will operate seven weekly flights between Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) in Tortola and Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Barbados. Four of these flights will operate nonstop, while three additional weekly services will route via Princess Juliana International Airport in St Maarten, also providing direct connectivity between Tortola and St Maarten.

The new routes expand interCaribbean’s hub operations in Tortola and enhance travel options for passengers across the region. Travellers from Tortola will gain easier access to Barbados and onward connections to destinations such as Guyana, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Saint Vincent. At the same time, passengers from Barbados and the Southern Caribbean will benefit from improved access to the Northern Caribbean through Tortola and St Maarten.

InterCaribbean Chairman Lyndon Gardiner said the expansion reflects the airline’s long-term commitment to the BVI, noting that the carrier has served Tortola for a decade and continues to invest in strengthening regional connectivity. The airline’s growing fleet of 11 ATR turboprop aircraft has supported its ability to add new destinations and increase frequency across its network.

In parallel, regional carrier WINAIR has also confirmed plans to introduce new services that will include Barbados as part of its 2026 route expansion. The announcement was made by BVI Minister of Communications and Works Kye Rymer, following Caribbean Airlines’ decision to withdraw its services from the territory.

WINAIR is expected to launch five weekly flights from Tortola starting January 15, 2026, including three same-day services to Barbados. In addition, the airline will introduce two weekly flights from Tortola to Port of Spain, Trinidad, via St Martin, beginning February 1, 2026. Introductory one-way fares are expected to start from US$149 to Barbados and US$159 to Trinidad.

Rymer said the BVI government has been working closely with WINAIR and other regional carriers to minimise disruption and secure reliable air access following Caribbean Airlines’ withdrawal. He noted that the new services would improve connectivity for residents, businesses and visitors, while restoring important links to key commercial and travel markets such as Barbados and Trinidad.

Caribbean Airlines has confirmed that, effective January 10, 2026, it will discontinue its Tortola and Puerto Rico routes, which previously included a Barbados leg, as part of its Network Optimisation Programme. In response, Barbados’ Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, has stated that the island is monitoring the situation closely and will continue working with regional carriers to address any gaps in air service.

Together, the new interCaribbean and WINAIR routes reinforce Barbados’ role as a key regional hub and ensure continued air access between the Eastern and Southern Caribbean heading into 2026.
