Barbados is continuing to strengthen its presence in the Canadian travel market with the launch of a new nonstop route from Montreal, further boosting connectivity ahead of the 2026–2027 winter season.
Air Transat will begin operating direct flights between Montreal and Barbados on December 13, offering twice-weekly service on Wednesdays and Sundays aboard its Airbus A321LR aircraft with seating for 199 passengers.
The new seasonal route marks another major expansion for Barbados in Canada and comes shortly after the island announced new nonstop service from Halifax on Air Canada.
Together, the additions significantly strengthen Barbados’ Canadian airlift portfolio as the island continues targeting long-term visitor growth from key source markets.

Barbados Deepens Focus on Quebec Market
Quebec has consistently ranked among Barbados’ strongest Canadian visitor markets, particularly during the winter travel season. Tourism officials say the new Montreal route is designed to meet growing demand for direct access to the island while offering travelers more convenience during peak travel months.
According to Ian Gooding-Edghill, the launch reflects continued confidence in Barbados as a preferred warm-weather destination for travelers from Quebec.
Tourism authorities also emphasized that expanding reliable airlift remains central to Barbados’ long-term tourism strategy, particularly in markets with strong repeat visitation and longer average stays.
Strengthening Barbados’ Winter Tourism Strategy
The Montreal service forms part of Barbados’ broader effort to enhance accessibility from Canada through strategic, sustainable growth rather than short-term seasonal increases.
Andrea Franklin described Quebec as a cornerstone of Barbados’ Canadian tourism strategy, noting that the market has consistently delivered strong visitor arrivals to the island.
Meanwhile, Eusi Skeete highlighted Barbados’ long-standing relationships with travel advisors and trade partners throughout Quebec, positioning the island as an experience-driven destination for travelers seeking culture, relaxation, and extended winter escapes.

Why the New Route Matters
For Canadian travelers, nonstop flights remain one of the most influential factors when selecting Caribbean destinations during winter. The new Montreal-Barbados service removes the need for connections through Toronto or the United States, creating a faster and more seamless travel experience.
The use of the Airbus A321LR also reflects a growing trend among airlines deploying fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft on medium-haul Caribbean leisure routes from Canada and the northeastern United States.
Tourism officials expect the expanded connectivity to create additional opportunities across Barbados’ hospitality sector, including hotels, restaurants, tours, and long-stay winter travel demand.
Growing Competition Across the Caribbean
The launch comes as Canadian airlines continue expanding their winter schedules to Caribbean destinations amid sustained demand for warm-weather travel.
Barbados has emerged as one of the key beneficiaries of this trend, with the island increasingly attracting travelers seeking premium experiences, longer stays, and reliable year-round air access.
With both the new Air Transat Montreal route and the recently announced Air Canada Halifax service launching in December, Barbados is entering the upcoming winter season with one of its strongest Canadian airlift networks in recent years.
